Statesburo blues live at the filmore east

This single song made me want to learn to play guitar. Not to mention they lived in my home town and my sister went to school with Greg.

The story behind this song is that Greg was visiting from California where he had been performing with the Almond Joys trying to get a recording contract. Mamma Almond lived on Van Ave and Greg stopped by to visit Dwayne who was sick in bed with the flu. Greg took Dwayne a bottle of Cloresiden D cough syrup and left to go visit a friend across town.

Phone rang at his friend’s house and a member of family told Greg he needed to get home right away, it’s Dwayne. Greg assuming the worst drove back to his mother’s house and walked in the door and into Dwayne’s bedroom. Dwayne was sitting on the edge of his bed plugged into his amp playing slide with the empty cough syrup bottle. The song he was playing was the beginning of “Statesboro Blues”.
