And instructions on how to use google sheets and the spreadsheet are below. If you're like me and unfamiliar with this stuff, Google sheets is not what you have after a bar crawl in Juarez, but googles free version of excel, which does all the same stuff, but only not so much. 


Using The Race Sheet:
The n7thGear™ Team Race Sheet is on Google Sheets, stored in the cloud so anyone can edit it.
You can edit it from any web browser on a PC or Mac.

Mobile App (Mobile Users Only):
To edit the Race Sheet from a mobile device you need to install the free Google Sheets mobile app, available for iOS and Android.
To use the mobile app you need to log into Google, and first set up a Google Gmail account if you don't already have one.

"When you click a link to the Race Sheet, it opens in your web browser. There you can view but not edit. To launch the mobile app from your browser, click the pencil icon at top right. From there click ""Use The App"" to install or launch the app. "

Once you have accessed the sheet from the mobile app you can launch the app directly to use the sheet.

Sheets:
There are 4 sheet tabs; Entries, Standings, Race Info and User Tips. Enter your Fast Lap and Total Time entries on the Entries Sheet.

Also drivers can edit their names in the Entries sheet. Names are limited to 15 characters. Validation is set to prevent longer names.

Outside of the Driver and Time Entry area the sheets are protected where no user input is required.

Time Entries:
All times must be entered in the HH:MM:SS.mmm format.
It is OK to use single digits, but all 4 values need to be entered even if zero, with the above punctuation between the values.
And to those that usually use a comma for the decimal point, sorry, but it needs to be a period to work in the sheet.
Validation is set to prevent incorrect time entries.

Using Copy/Paste
There is a weakness in the formatting on the Entries sheet that can lead to unintended formatting errors. It is not possible to protect the formatting in the unprotected entry cells.
Copy/pasting into the entry cells can corrupt the column-specific conditional formatting (purple times logic).
So, please avoid use of copy/paste directly over cells and instead use the edit box for pasting.
Using the mobile app the edit box appears at the bottom of the screen when you select a cell.
In the full browser version, the edit box is at the top.

And if you get in a jam, try Undo to back up.

Race Times:
All Race Times on the Race Info sheet are in Indianapolis (US EDT) timezone.(UTC -4 daylight savings)
The Current Date & Time field should appear to all users as the current time in Indianapolis.
The Elapsed and Remaining time counters are the same for everyone regardless of timezone.

Race Time Updates:
The times are set to update once a minute. Not exactly on the minute, but once a minute.
But they do not update automatically on the mobile app, only on the full web version.
But no matter what, they should update when you first enter the sheet, and again anytime a change is made anywhere in the sheets.
If the timers do not update, try exiting and re-entering the sheet.

Race Countdown:
The Race Countdown from the Race Info sheet is displayed promanantly in the top left corner of the Entries sheet.
"Before the race starts, the race countdown timer shows ""Race has not begun"". "
During the race it counts down the time remaining in the race.
"After the race ends, it shows ""Race has ended"". "
If it does not update on your mobile device, see notes above regarding race times updates.

Purple Times:
On the Entries sheet, each column in the driver entry section, and each row in the summary section, is set with conditional formatting to light up best times in purple.
When more than one cell within those columns or rows share the best time, those cells will all light up in purple.

Race Rules:
In Cup Races your Fast Lap and Total Time must be from the same race.

Please only enter times into the Entries sheet during the race, while the Countdown Timer is running.

You need to post a screengrab of your times on your team thread.
At the end of the race there is a gold colored arrow in the middle on the right hand side of the page. Click on that and it takes you to a page that shows both total time and fast lap. Take a picture of this screen (hit start button and home button at same time and you will hear the camera shuttle noise). Then post your picture in the team thread using Add Attachment
