Rally America: Attainable Racing In The U.S.

If you are an aspiring racer, you will be hard pressed to find a more fun alternative to rallying as a means to get started. The initial outlay and day to day operating expense is (relatively) inexpensive, the gear can be purchased down the street at your local Honda, Ford, Toyota, etc dealership, and the reputation of a good rally driver will take you a long way in your career progression. Rally America sanctions and runs many events annually across the U.S. and is open to anyone with the right wheels and credentials. And those aren't that difficult to get. There are no ovals, pace cars or rain delays. Rally racing features real cars racing against the clock on closed-off sections of real roads that are usually unpaved and unforgiving. Events can last several days and cover hundreds of miles through rain, snow, day or night. This extreme test of skill, speed and endurance is what makes rally racing the world’s premiere and most exciting motor sport, one that is quickly growing in North America.

If you think that professional racing is destined to just remain a dream, take a look at Rally America's B-Spec Class. Reigning B-Spec production class champion James Robinson says the small but growing Rally America class is, by design, the perfect entryway for drivers looking to prove themselves. Robinson doubles as a Powertrain Development Engineer for Honda R&D in his day job, which is admittedly an advantage, but the class is homogelated such that you can't get "outspent" in your class. He is piloting a 2015 Honda Fit this season with co-driver Brian Penza.


The best thing about the B-Spec class, as far as Robinson is concerned, is that anybody could jump into the game and join him on a level playing field. B-Spec class vehicles are built to production category rules, using normally aspirated vehicle models that are street-licensed and available for retail sale in the United States.
